pen 第2巻「旅行の英会話」 英英辞典を使った意味調べ

中級者・上級者レベルになってきたかな…と思ったら、辞書は英和ではなくて

英英辞典を使うことをおすすめします。

英和辞典を使っていると、いつか壁につきあたると思います。

「頑張っているわりには、ちっとも英語力が伸びない」という壁です。


英語を英語のまま理解するために、ぜひとも英英辞典を使って意味調べをして

それを音読するというやり方にシフトして欲しいと思います。

「本物の英語力」が身につくはずです。


1. ON THE PLANE (機内で)
難しい単語はありません。
2. AT THE AIRPORT (空港で)
penHe goes through Immigration. immigration: Immigration or immigration control is the place at a port, airport, or international border where officials check the passports of people. penAnd your disembarkation card. disembarkation: When passengers disembark from a ship, aeroplane, or bus, they leave it at the end of their journey. ex) I looked towards the plane. Six passengers had already disembarked. Disembarkation is at 7:30 am. penMr. Ito goes through Costoms. customs: Customs is the place where people arriving from a foreign country have to declare goods that they bring with them. ex) He walked through customs. penDo you have anything to declare? declare: If you declare goods that you have bought in another country or money that you have earned, you say houw much you have bought or earned so that you can pay tax on it. ex) She had nothing to declare, and was starting to go through the 'Green' channel when she was stopped.
3. AT THE HOTEL (ホテルで)

4. EATING OUT (外食)
penWe have a nice cheesecake, raspberry sorbet... sorbet: Sorbet is like ice cream but made with fruit juice, sugar, and water. ex) a light lemon sorbet.
5. SIGHTSEEING (観光)
penAt their hotel, they go to the concierge desk. concierge: A concierge is a person, especially in France, who looks after a block of flats and checks people entering and leaving the building. flat: A flat is a set of rooms for living in usually on one floor and part of a larger building. A flat usually includes a kitchen and bathroom. ex) Sara lives with her husband and children in a flat in central London. penThe tour covers most of the main tourist attractions in New York. attraction: An attraction is something that people can go to for interest or enjoyment, for example a famous building. ex) The walled city is an important tourist attraction. penHow much is admission? admission: Admission at a park, museum, or other place is the amount of money you pay to enter it. ex) Gates open at 10.30 am and admission is free. penThe suggested donation is fifteen dollars for adults, ten for senior citizens over 60 years old, and seven for students. suggest: If you suggest the name of a person or place, you recommend them to someone. ex)They can suggest where to buy one. donation: A donation is something which someone gives to a charity or other organization. ex) Employees make regular donations to charity. penWe have brochures and maps in Japanese. brochure: A brochure is a magazine or thin book with pictures that gives you information about a product or service. ex) travel brochures.
6. ON THE STREET (通りで)

7. AT THE POST OFFICE (郵便局)
難しい単語はありません。
8. GOING SHOPPING (買い物)
penIt's too flashy. flashy: If you describe a person or thing as flashy, you mean they are smart and noticeable, but in a rather vulgar way. ex) He was much less flashy than his brother. vulgar: If you describe a person or their behaviour as vulgar, you mean that they lack taste or behave rudely. ex) He was a vulgar old man, but he never swore in front of a woman. penLater, Mrs. Yamada looks at a watch from a street vendor. vendor: A vendor is someone who sells things such as newspapers, cigarettes, or food from a small stall or cart. ex) ice-cream vendors. stall: A stall is a large table on which you put goods that you want to sell, or information that you want to give people. ex) market stalls selling local fruits.
9. REPORTING A LOST BAG (バッグの紛失を届ける)
penMrs. Yamada loses her purse. purse: 1) A purse is a very small bag that people, especially woman, keep their money in. 2) A purse is a small bag that women carry. ex) She looked at me and then reached in her purse for cigarettes. penYou also need to contact your consulate about your lost passport. consulate: A consulate is the place where a consul works. ex) They managed to make contact with the British consulate in Lyons. consul: A consul is an official who is sent by his or her government to live in a foreign city in order to look after all the people there that belong to his or her own country. ex) The British Consul in Zurich has confirmed that a British man was among the people killed.
10. GETTING SICK (病気になる)
